My experience with Stellar Solar was perfect from start to finish. The representative that came out had brochures, discussed the type of panels, the output, the longevity and everything else that I needed to know. Based on my electrical bills over a year, we decided exactly how much power I needed in order to appropriately reduce my SDG&E bills. The installation was on the ground on a difficult and slippery slope. It was exceedingly difficult to get to and to work on. Scott and his crew were amazing. They worked incredible hours, sometimes until 6 at night and did an amazing job even though it was much more difficult than anyone would have guessed. The total installation looks ideal and they took care of all of the details and inspections. The electrical panels were installed after careful discussions with their electrical team so that they were placed exactly where I would like them.
I cannot recommend Stellar Solar too highly. Rarely do you get more than you expect and that is exactly what I got. —David W.

I selected Stellar after interviewing and receiving estimates from a number of solar providers and electrical contractors. Overall I was very pleased with the service, my representative always was available for questions. I already had a rooftop solar heater for my pool and Dave, the Stellar representative was able to help me get it moved very rapidly and as part of the price of the lease, all other companies said I was responsible, this was one of the deciding points in Stellar's favor. The initial process of filling out paperwork on the lease was painless and Stellar took care of the details working around my schedule. The panels took about a month and a half to arrive, which is average for my area. The panels and inverter were installed very rapidly. The original plan of upgrading my existing 100A service to 120 using the same cable to the utility, was found to not be in alignment with local code. Stellar arranged for an Upgrade to 200A with a new distribution panel and the associated trenching and work on the home with no change in the quoted price. The only flaw in the whole process was the delays in getting the utility scheduled, that took over 4 months. That is the reason for a C on punctuality, I cannot really blame Stellar for this as the original install was to be 2 months earlier and was canceled by the utility. As an engineer at a utility I am impressed with the quality of work, knowledge of their employees and service that Stellar provides and I am happy to display their sign in my yard. —Tim I.

I got bids from 5 different solar installation companies, including 3 bids with identical specs for the Sunpower pre-paid lease. The Sunpower lease program is an inexpensive, low risk way to go solar. Sunpower agrees to install and maintain the equipment, replace any failing equipment, and guarantees a pre-specified amount of electricity every year for 20 years. I pay a low up-front amount (subsidized by incentives and tax breaks that Sunpower receives) that I will recoup in 4-6 years from electricity savings.
I selected Stellar Solar over the other 2 Sunpower lease installers I talked to for several reasons:
- Stellar Solar offered a comprehensive warranty for all the work, protecting my home from any collateral damage from working on my roof
- Stellar Solar has good online reviews and I liked the people I talked to
- Stellar Solar offered the lowest price
I wanted to wait to post my review until I had 2 electricity bills that were fully "solar". Here are my electricity bills for the past few months.
Apr25: $329.90
May24: $341.98
Jun25: $391.80
Jul25: $301.89
Aug24: $0.00
Sep24: $ 28.00
The July bill had solar for only part of the month, but as expected, the system is saving me about $300-$350 per month. This gives the system an ROI of just under 5 years, but I will continue to generate electricity for another 15 years after breaking even with zero maintenance/replacement costs.
I was very pleased with Stellar Solar. They worked with me to configure the panels on my roof so that they are nearly invisible from the front of the house. They worked with me on the layout of wiring and cables so it looks very clean. They are a truly professional outfit and I recommend them highly. —Sean Y., San Diego

Well really what electrical bill SDG&E no longer will be digging deep into our pockets for there outrageous fees...... loving it, I can' say enough about Dave Gersz and his team at Stellar Solar they were professional, informative, courteous, timely. Dave made us feel as if we were the only customer he had and that says a lot, he always went the extra mile. We are grateful we choose Stellar Solar over the other companies we had interviewed it was close but in the end and looking back today I know we made the right choice. After an exhaustive study of home solar information and installers for more than a year, we got competitive estimates from three local solar installers whose reputation and customer reviews earned them serious consideration.
We chose Stellar Solar above the other two, and our installation was complete before the end of 2010.
My wife and I found the entire Stellar Solar team to be hard working and professional, courteous and efficient during the installation. Michael Powers patiently outlined every phase of installation, presented detailed plans, and guided us through the project painlessly.
In the year of operation, the Sun Power equipment installed by Stellar Solar has performed flawlessly. Our electric bill dropped from an average of $250 a month to less than $50 a month.
I hardly notice the panels on the roof, and only green lights and a quiet hum from the Inverter in the garage let me know we are making $un Money. During daylight, we sometimes we go outside and watch the electric meter spin ... in reverse ... and smile.
We wanted to wait at least a year to comment on our choice in solar vendors, allowing time to confirm the value of our opinion. We want folks to know we're still more than happy we chose Stellar Solar! —Tom R., San Diego

Dave Gersz and Stellar Solar did a first class job. His team was very technically competent and professional, paid attention to detail, worked incredibly efficiently, and installed a 60 panel array in 3 days flat. I signed a lease with an option to buy provision, their rates were very competitive, and the price had come down by approximately 50% since I priced a system out 4 years ago. It is very satisfying to monitor the production with my Sunpower iPhone app and see that SDG&E may owe me money by the end of the year. —Steven O., La Mesa

We recently researched solar electric and got a few proposals and interviewed 3 contractors. Dave Gersz from Stellar was one of the 3. He was very knowledgeable and had a professional attitude. I would have been very comfortable going with Stellar: they have been doing solar for a long time and were selected as a Home Depot partner. They also have a A+ BBB rating. We decided on a different brand of PV panels and that was the main reason we ended up going with another company. When we told the non-selected companies that we went elsewhere, Dave was far more professional about not being the winning bidder than any of the others. That speaks well for his integrity and I'm guessing that reflects Stellar's attitude overall.—Mikala S., San Diego

We are very pleased with installing solar panels with Stellar Solar. We researched several companies over a 2 year period and Stelar equipment and price were unbeatable. We have been on the system for 6 months and our SDGE bill has been about 1/8 of what we were being charged before. At this rate we project paying off the system in 6 years. Everyone I worked with was very professional and courteous. They even painted the conduit to match the paint on our house. We couldn't have selected a better company to install our solar panels. —Ted B., Jamul

We reserached many companies and interviewed three. Dave was our sales rep from Stellar Solar. He was most knowledgable about their product and what it could do for our electric needs. Our bills were not necessarily high but we wanted to curtail the future rate hikes. I checked with 3 of their customers and they had only the best to say about them. Dave did the analysis and said we needed 14 panels. He was on top of the scheduling and followup with the installers. Kent the owner also was on the job the day of the installation. He was also very knowledgable. The project went very smoothly and a beautiful job. There was a pipe that was visible that we specifically ask there be no pipes showing and they have come back and corrected that pipe. Dave was on top of them and kept checking to make sure they came back to correct the pipe that was visable. All in all this was the best company to do the job. Dave is very professional. We are very satisfied with their work.—Jan C., Encinitas
